Glenn Highway: Hiland to Artillery Capacity Improvements

Glenn Highway Eagle River Bridge

Welcome to the website for the Glenn Highway Hiland to Artillery Capacity Improvements project.Location Map

The Glenn Highway serves more than 50,000 drivers a day.  During peak hours, the Glenn’s northbound lanes can become congested with traffic, resulting in delays, driver frustration, and conditions that can lead to vehicle crashes.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) plans long-range phased improvements to the north and southbound lanes the Glenn Highway between the Hiland Drive interchange to the Artillery Road interchange. This project intends to make upgrades that will improve driving conditions in the project area, which may require the widening or replacement of the bridges over Eagle River.

July 2016 Travelers’ Advisory/Project Update:

VFW Road will be open to two-way through traffic starting Friday, July 15, 2016. This new frontage road follows the previous Glenn Highway alignment and connects Eagle River Loop Road from the Hiland Interchange to Eagle River Road near Artillery Road.
